The event will include appetizers, drinks, and a guest speaker, Adrian Gonzalez from ARC Advisory Group. His topic is:

Technologies That Tomorrow’s Industry Leaders Are Investing In Today

They say hindsight is 20/20.  If we could fast forward ten years and interview the industry leaders of tomorrow, which technologies did they invest in today that enabled them to outperform the competition by responding intelligently to the various supply chain and logistics challenges that lie ahead?  This is the central question that Mr Gonzalez will address in his presentation.  Mr Gonzalez will highlight the key challenges supply chain and logistics professionals will face in the coming years—some are historical problems (poor data quality), while others are new and emerging (“green” regulations)—and he’ll discuss how companies can leverage technology to overcome these issues and create a competitive advantage.

Here is just a sample of the Technology Companies that will be demonstrating:

Description:
The next DU Supply Chain Roundtable is Friday January 9th .

DU Presents: Supplier Education, Collaboration and the Qwest Supply Chain

Co-sponsored by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, Rocky Mountain Roundtable

See Registration Link Below

We pick up the phone and hear a dial tone. We turn on our computers and access the internet daily. Have you ever thought about the supply chain that delivers the dial tone and the internet access? According to Scott Fleener, Senior Director of Supply Chain at Qwest, “The Qwest supply chain is very much like a manufacturing supply chain except we support a vast and complex network of small manufacturing sites”. “In today’s economy of cost squeezes and increasing competition, our supply chain needs to look both up and down the supply chain to drive out costs. But not drive them out selfishly. Lower Total Cost is the objective."

To accomplish this, Qwest has focused on supplier education and collaboration to identify and implement cost reductions, service enhancements, and increases to cash flow (which is more important today than ever before).

Join us on January 9th as Scott Fleener, Senior Director of Supply Chain at Qwest presents the "The Qwest Supply Chain" to the University of Denver Supply Chain Roundtable. Learn to look up and down the supply chain to identify opportunities, improve performance, and increase cash flow via supplier collaboration.

Dinner Meeting    6:00PM – 8:30PM

Maggiano's at Cumberland Mall

Several questions come to mind concerning the trucking industry and the coming year.  If you are a shipper facing a fast declining order book, you might ask “do I have any reason to be optimistic?”  Alternatively, if you are a carrier, you might ask, “How much worse can it get?”  Join us on Monday, January 12th to hear from one of the Atlanta CSCMP roundtable’s best attended meeting speakers last year to get many of your questions answered and hear Thom opine on the future of the trucking industry and its impact on your business.  Thom will provide key market updates based on research focused on world business trends and freight supply / demand balance.

Thom Albrecht, Managing Director Stephens Inc, co-heads the Transportation Equity Research team with a focus on TL, LTL and transport suppliers.  He has been quoted on transportation by national media including the Wall Street Journal, Traffic World, Transport Topics and the Journal of Commerce.  He has been chosen by the Wall Street Journal as an All-Star Analyst 7 times and was selected by Starmine/Forbes as the best stock picker for "Road and Rail" during 2001, 2004 and 2005 (runner-up in 2003).  Thom will discuss his latest research on the TL / LTL industries and share his thoughts on factors impacting demand vs capacity balance in these critical industries.

We will start at 6:00 with registration and networking.  At 6:30 we will begin serving dinner and introduce our speaker and follow with a Q&A session and dessert.  The meeting will conclude at 8:30PM.

Description:
The Supply Chain – Finance Link: Translating our Value into Executive-Speak, January 15

Given the current economic environment, 2009 presents a direct challenge to most of us: flawless execution at reduced cost.  It’s not hard to understand why: when one considers that 70 percent or more of many firm’s expenditures are on supply-chain related activities, the potential impact of the supply chain on financial performance becomes absolutely huge.  We can also expect continued pressure on transportation costs and volatility of fuel prices – join us in January to hear the perspective of a major retailer and what steps they are taking to manage these in today’s environment.

Clearly there is an opportunity today to step up and have an impact.  At the same time, what if implementing improvements in operating capabilities will have near-term costs or require an investment to position you for longer-term competitive success?  For example, reducing your “cost per ton-mile” is interesting to us; but if doing so – in a time of budget cuts – requires an investment in personnel, direct cash outflows, or the development of new processes, can you present a business case that will speak to the C-level business imperatives of margin, cash flow, working capital, and ROI?

We’re pleased to host Mike Tripp, Vice President of Supply Chain & Logistics from Christopher & Banks Corporation, who will provide his perspective on what we can do as supply chain leaders to draw the line between our contributions to corporate performance, win support for our high-potential projects and be better business partners by correlating our activities to the strategic business drivers pushing the executive team.

About the speaker:

Mike Tripp is Vice President of Supply Chain and Logistics with Christopher and Banks.  Prior to Christopher and Banks, he worked at Wilson’s Leather as Vice President, Wholesale, E-commerce and Global Logistics.  Mike’s professional experience also includes operations management positions at Target and Kmart.

Mike has a Bachelor of Science degree in National Security/Systems Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and served as a Military Intelligence Officer in the United States Army.

Christopher & Banks Corporation is a Minneapolis-based retailer of women's clothing. The Company currently operates 822 stores in 46 states under the names: Christopher & Banks, C.J. Banks and Acorn.

Description:
Supply Chain - The flow of commodities, financial resources and information technology among plants and across borders has embraced a global perspective over time. Manufacturers can source materials, components from various suppliers and utilize labor, machinery at different facilities to gain time, distance, tax incentive and access larger distribution network.
One of the popular strategies currently used is FTZ or "Free Trade Zones"
Please join Cleveland CSCMP Roundtable at our January 15 luncheon to explore multi advantages of Free Trade Zone.

OUR TOPIC:

"Foreign Trade Zones"....truly leveling the international playing field.  Learn how FTZs are saving thousands of user-firms billions of dollars from their global supply chain budgets-on a continuing basis.  Learn how proactive managements have integrated Zone utilization into their strategic planning in order to secure maximum benefits.

OUR SPEAKER:   ROY F.KNAPP JR. President CONSULTECH, INC.

Roy is an international trade advisor with over thirty years of “hands-on” executive experience providing specialized consulting services to clients that need to be, or want to be, much more effective as they compete in the global economy.  His corporate CV includes successful assignments in seventeen states and in eight countries.  Past projects range from a comprehensive array of Foreign Trade Zone projects across America: from Maine to California-Ohio to Texas; from maquilladora manufacturing operations in Renosa, Mexico, to privatization efforts of a former Soviet (nuclear) airbase in Lithuania, and drafting legislation to create and establish its Free Trade Zone (which involved generating successful grant applications to the World Bank).

His practice inherently covers the use and implementation of Foreign Trade Zones; the integration of facility rationalization, global logistics and supply chain management analyses; implementation and utilization of various international trade management techniques; and synthesizing corporate management, operations, manufacturing, procurement, marketing, and transportation elements to facilitate greater global competitiveness.  He advocates ‘public-private partnerships’ as a successful model to create and ensure ‘win-win’ situations for clients-public and private; by including all involved parties; share-holders, stakeholders, and impacted constituencies.

Roy has served on the national board of directors of the National Transportation Research Forum and served as a board director for the National Association of Foreign Trade Zones for two different terms spanning eight years, both based in Washington, D.C.  He currently serves as the Founding Chairman of the Cleveland World Trade Association Foundation, a board member of the Northern Ohio District Export Council (NODEC-U.S. Department of Commerce policy advisory board), as a founding board member of the Northern Ohio International Trade Network, as an Ohio Commodore (Governor’s Global Honor Guard), and as an advisor to the State of Pennsylvania (PENNPORTS).

He also served as inaugural Chairman of the Industry Advisory Board and member of the Visiting Committee to the Maine Maritime Academy, as an advisor to the State of Ohio, Regional Economic Development Council.  He was also a founding board member in Ohio of the Northeast Ohio International Trade Consortium, the French-American Chamber of Commerce, the British-American Chamber of Commerce, the BeNeLux Business Association, the German-American Business Roundtable, and the Latin and South American Business Association.  He also served as Honorary Past Chairman of the (Ohio) Japan Society).

He has served as a board trustee and/or president to over forty other business-related organizations and associations. As you would expect Roy is a frequent speaker to university graduate business schools, trade and civic groups, and various government agencies.  He is currently an advisor to Foreign Trade Zone projects in Ohio, Kansas, California, Pennsylvania, Texas, Georgia, New York and Maine.

Industries served include airports, industrial parks, inner-city ‘brownfield remediation and re-utilization sites, maritime facilities, aerospace, aircraft components, automobile and truck manufacturing and their components, steel and metal products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, dyes, medical devices, appliances, bearings, lighting fixtures and components, welding machines and supplies, imaging devices, food and related services, machine tools, computers and related components, instrumentation, electronic devices, athletic apparel, wood products, and construction equipment.

Roy attended Johns Hopkins University where he studied Civil Engineering, and holds an Executive MBA from Case-Western Reserve University.  He has been married for 39 years to his wife Donna, is the father of three, and is the proud grandfather of ten!

He is a member of MENSA, BETA GAMMA SIGMA, and is licensed in Florida.

The Path to Regional Prosperity

MarySue Barrett, President of the Metropolitan Planning Council, will address trends and opportunities in transportation infrastructure and development. With the metropolitan Chicagoeconomy projected to grow dramatically by 2030, there is a pressing need to forge new coordinated planning and investment strategies that will guide more balanced growth in the future. Metropolitan Planning Council Mission
Founded in 1934, the Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group of business
and civic leaders committed to serving the public interest through development, promotion and implementation
of sound planning and policies so all residents have access to opportunity and a good quality of life, the

Our Speaker
MarySue Barrett is president of the Metropolitan Planning Council, an independent, nonprofit group of business and civic leaders working to achieve policies that enhance the vitality and livability of the Chicago metropolitan region. Ms. Barrett assumed the role of MPC president and board member on April 1, 1996. During her tenure, MPC has dramatically increased its advocacy work, launching A+ Illinois, Business Leaders for Transportation, and the Campaign for Sensible Growth, all coalitions working to put good policy into action. MPC focuses on creating better tools and incentives to deliver quality education, a balanced tax system,
transportation choices, sustainable development, and housing near jobs.

Prior to joining MPC, Ms. Barrett served in Mayor Richard M. Daley’s administration, holding positions of increasing responsibility over seven years. In 1995, she was recruited to serve as chief of staff to the Chicago School Reform Board of Trustees, part of a new management team charged with bringing revolutionary change to the Chicago Public Schools. From 1993 through 1995, MarySue Barrett was chief of policy for Mayor Daley, where she coordinated initiatives on public safety, economic and community development, and lifelong education. Ms. Barrett began her municipal government work in 1989 in the Mayor’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and counts among her top accomplishments Chicago’s successful implementation of community policing and neighborhood redevelopment projects. The initial sale is just the first introduction to a consumer relationship extending well beyond the purchase, through associated service revenues, future buying decisions, and warranty and returns activities. Manufacturers must nurture this relationship with efficient and effective service execution, or brand loyalty, customer retention and repeat sales are jeopardized. The post-sale supply chain requires as much focus as the forward supply chain. And as profit margins continue to shrink, industry leaders are finding ways to leverage aftermarket services to generate additional profit.

This presentation will assist you to effectively managing your recovery from excess.

    Topics covered include:

    • Determining why your products are coming back, and creating actionable strategies for reducing future returns and boosting profitability;
    • Successfully aligning operations, product design, customer service, and reverse logistics, in a concerted attack on consumer returns;
    • Optimizing your reverse logistics processes to enhance efficiency and drive out unnecessary costs.

    Program Description:

CSCMP New Jersey Roundtable is pleased to present a very relevant topic for a brand new year.  The topic is on sustainable collaboration, and how it will shape the future of our supply chain.

The Global Commerce Initiative (GCI) has written an excellent, thought-provoking paper on this issue, called The 2016 Future Supply Chain, (downloadable at www.futuresupplychain.com).  The Forward of the report read:

What does the current focus on sustainability have to do with on-shelf availability and costs in the physical supply chain for consumer goods? The answer is ¡°everything.¡±

Increasing political momentum around issues such as resource scarcity, climate change, security and new regulations brings to light critical challenges that our industry will face in the coming years. The 2007 Bali Treaty and other political initiatives are driving the industry to come up with breakthrough solutions.  Such solutions require new thinking, new approaches and new collaboration on infrastructures.

Until now, the most important parameters for supply chain designs have been related to cost efficiency and on-shelf availability. As a result of the growing importance of these emerging issues, new factors are becoming increasingly critical, such as traffic congestion in urban areas, energy consumption, CO2 emissions and the permanent rise in transportation costs.

The big question is: What impact will these new parameters have on the design of future supply chains? The ambition of this report is to provide relevant thinking, ideas and examples to help answer that question.

The breakthrough change presented in the report is based on the joint work of 24 companies in the retail and consumer packaged goods industry. All the elements of this change have been brought together into an integrated architecture for a future supply chain, aimed at a more sustainable broad-based solution for the industry.

The time to act is now, for the benefit of all.

Our guest speaker for the New Year is Bob Boucher, Vice President, Global Customer Service & Logistics, Colgate-Palmolive Company.
