Donald J. Bowersox Doctoral Symposium
Recognizing his dedication to the future leaders in logistics and supply chain management, CSCMP’s Board of Directors voted to accept the recommendation of CSCMP’s Education Strategies Committee to name the highly regarded Doctoral Symposium in honor of Dr. Donald J. Bowersox.
At CSCMP’s 2011 Supply Chain Management Educator’s Conference, Professor Walter Zinn from The Ohio State University said, “Naming the doctoral symposium in Don’s honor is a fitting tribute to the man and his career. His intellectual achievements, spanning five decades as a thought leader, were massive. ;Don always looked forward and believed in the future of the field. We will miss his charisma and his leadership. He was dedicated to his research and to his students and future generations of scholars should know about him. And because students are the future he believed in, there can be no greater tribute to Don Bowersox than to name CSCMP’s doctoral symposium after him. Don would be pleased with this tribute.”
Prior to CSCMP’s Annual Global Conference, CSCMP sponsors a symposium for doctoral candidates majoring in supply chain field of study. Nominations for students are solicited from academics around the world who teach graduate studies.
The objectives of the symposium are to:
- offer an opportunity for students to develop a richer understanding of supply chain management
- provide a forum in which doctoral students in supply chain will have an opportunity to dialogue with academic and practitioner leaders
- provide an opportunity for building a network of academic and nonacademic contacts
- expose students to research policy, techniques, and approaches
- build a level of professionalism and awareness of issues, challenges, and opportunities in the global business community
