Dr. James R. Stock, Frank Harvey Endowed Professor of Marketing, University of South Florida, will receive the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals’ (CSCMP) 2011 Distinguished Service Award.

CSCMP presents the award annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to the art and science of supply chain and logistics management. The award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an individual for achievement in these two professions.

Professor Stock will be honored during the Opening General Session on Monday, October 3, 2011 at CSCMP’s Annual Global Conference in Philadelphia. He is the 46th person to receive the award since it was inaugurated in 1965 as a tribute to John Drury Sheahan, a pioneer logistics consultant and partner in the consulting firm that bore his name.

Dr. Stock’s contributions to the logistics and supply chain professions have been de-scribed by his colleagues as “legendary and global,” and extend across a variety of venues. “Jim Stock has gone above and beyond in the creation and development of materials written for the profession,” said Rick Blasgen, CSCMP president and chief executive officer. “He has been a mentor who has had a profound impact on students all over the world. The accomplishments he has achieved through teaching, authoring textbooks, conducting research, editing journals, and educating supply chain professionals have left and will continue to leave an indelible mark on the supply chain profession.”

Before assuming his current position, Dr. Stock held faculty positions with the University of Notre Dame, The University of Oklahoma, the Air Force Institute of Technology, and Michigan State University. He has also consulted and conducted research for manufacturing and service companies worldwide. His research interests include reverse logistics/product returns, market-ing/logistics interface, and supply chain management.

Dr. Stock is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including multiple out-standing teaching and professor awards. He received the Armitage Medal and Eccles Medal from The International Society of Logistics (SOLE) in recognition of his contributions to the logistics discipline, and was named “Rainmaker for 2006” by DC Velocity.

He has published six books and over 150 articles, monographs, and proceedings papers. His publications have an extensive global readership, and he has been a featured program speaker in 45 countries. Dr. Stock has served as editor of the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management, Logistics Spectrum, and most recently, CSCMP’s Journal of Business Logistics. He is also a member of several editorial review boards.

A long-time CSCMP member, he has served as chair of the Research Strategies Committee and as a member of the Education Strategies Committee. He holds BS and MBA degrees from the University of Miami (Florida), and a doctorate from The Ohio State University.
