Supply Chain Innovation: Learn, Communicate, Iterate!

The landscape in most industries is changing. As a result of the exponential growht in computing power, technology innovation is accelerating, enabling new business models, products and services. This new landscape is characterized by changes in manufacturing, information technology, regulations, and relationships where end-user involvement presents new ways to deliver value.  Traditionally, supply chain professionals have innovated for efficiency, focusing on cost reduction and service improvement. The new business landscape demands a vastly expanded view of supply chain innovation. Regardless of the type of innovation, management must prepare for challenges by exploring the implications surrounding new or disrupted supply chains. As supply chains become increasingly complex and faster paced, the ability to develop and communicate an integrated vision of an innovation’s impact on supply chain management will characterize leading supply chain professionals. In this meeting, Sebastián will describe the Supply Chain Innovation Canvas, a tool that to empower your innovation and communication efforts. By the end of this session, attendees will be able to start using the Supply Chain Innovation Canvas to their own innovations.

Whole Community Disaster Simulation by ALAN

Please join the CSCMP Baltimore Roundtable for a very special and unique event.  We are very honored to have Kathy Fulton, Executive Director of the American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN), as our guest for the evening to facilitate ALAN’s Whole Community Disaster Simulation.  This interactive simulation experience uses virtual and live action role playing to simulate post-disaster supply chains for key commodities. Attendees use smart-phones or tablets to play the role of a business, government or non-profit organization working in a crisis scenario.  Each role has a different objective, requiring players to coordinate and collaborate with their sector, demographic and geographic partners to fill gaps and reduce overlap to keep supply lines open. Players begin with resources they can sell or donate, and money they can donate or use to acquire additional resources to reach individual and team goals. A three day horizon mimics the critical 72 hour window faced during real-life relief efforts. The session includes visual performance metrics to allow players to review system-wide impacts of their actions, and a hot-wash style discussion reveals strategies for addressing the real world gaps reflected in game-play.  The exercise illustrates how differing objectives and perceptions may inhibit effective response, and highlights the need for coordination across sectors.  It will include a debrief session to reflect and reinforce observations and learnings.
