Join us as we tour the Chester County Food Bank and learn how they distribute over 2 million lbs. of food per year to over 90 organizations that include food cupboards, meal sites and other social service non-profit organizations. Using the donations they receive of time, food and money their mission is to feed the over 70,000 local households that don’t have enough food. Executive Director, Larry Welsh will be our guide. Larry has been with the Food Bank since it’s very beginning. In those early days, it was Larry and one truck working from a garage in Parkesburg. Today, they are in a 36,000 sq. feet facility doing more than just canned goods but also growing, processing and educating not only those in need but the community as a whole. They are more than food drives that put cans on the shelves of local food cupboards. The people behind the efforts at the food bank are focused on ending the cycle of hunger and poverty. Their programs are nutrition based, education focused on helping people live better lives. Fresh produce donations at cupboards, and healthy cooking classes are just the beginning of how they are making inroads in the fight against hunger. Register to attend and bring your non perishable healthy food items to help the Food Bank meet its mission!
