Canada

This issue covers the socioeconomic and supply chain environment in the country of Canada. Canada occupies 41 percent of North America, making it the second largest country in the world by area. An eight-hour by one-hour rectangle just north of the Great Lakes in Central Canada is home to about 70 percent of the population, while 90 percent of the Canadian population lives within one hour of the American border. The long distances between population centers make for a very difficult country to handle logistically, but Canada’s envious proximity—and the most extensive geographical exposure—to the largest economy in the world, the United States, is a great advantage.

France

This edition of CSCMP Global Perspectives takes a deeper look at France as an important global economy and leading transportation player in the European and global market. Located at the western edge of continental Europe, France is Western Europe’s largest country by surface area. It is the second largest economy in the European Union after Germany and the fifth largest in the world--thanks to a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of €1.996 billion in 2011 (almost $2.8 US billion). It is also one of most open economies as foreign trade accounts for more than 50% of GDP: exports of goods and services account for 25.5% of GDP and imports 27.7%. The bulk of industrial employment and value added in France are concentrated in a small number of sectors subject to a high level of international competition. The transportation sector accounts for around 5% of total value added in the economy as a whole, 5.5% of all jobs, and around 14% of household consumption.Note:This edition is available as an ePub file.  View a list of recommend ePub readers.
