CSCMP Announces Winners of the 2016 Roundtable Global Challenge

June 28, 2016

The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals' (CSCMP) Young Professionals' Committee is pleased to announce the winners of the first-ever Roundtable Global Challenge, sponsored by APL Logistics.

The winning team is CSCMP's Colombia Roundtable, who hail from EAFIT University in Medellin, Colombia. They include Sergio Ramirez Echeverri, head of the Department of Production Engineering; Andres Restrepo Gutierrez, a logistics assistant for continuing education programs; Oliver Rubio Maya, academic coordinator for the Continuing Education Center; and Andres Felipe Velez, a master's student in engineering.

The Roundtable Global Challenge is a diversity initiative designed to bridge the generational gaps by providing an interactive educational competition using Inchainge's supply chain simulation game called The Fresh Connection. Working in teams of four representing young professionals, middle management, and senior executives, the competition creates a platform where Millennials and seasoned professionals discuss new ideas to develop a winning supply chain strategy for the same fictional company. The game provides players with a challenging, yet enjoyable learning experience across the multiple generations represented on each team.

The challenge began with participating roundtables holding local competitions among multiple teams to ensure that the best teams were selected to represent the group in the Roundtable Global Challenge. Each team encountered challenging scenarios, requiring the collective knowledge and experience of team members to make the best tactical and strategical decisions. Local competitions took place between October 15 and December 30, 2015, and global teams were selected in January 2016.

The three top-scoring teams, which included the Arizona Roundtable, Benelux Roundtable, and Colombia Roundtable were invited to participate in the final competition that was held on June 17, 2016 during the Roundtable Leadership Forum in Southern California. Each member of the Columbia Roundtable team will receive an all-expense paid trip to CSCMP's Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida, September 25-28, 2016, where team members will be invited on stage and recognized for their accomplishments.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the Colombia Roundtable board for participating in this inaugural event.
