RESCHEDULE: Ocean Freight Gets Smarter with the Port of VA

Today’s oceanic shipping is a vital part of the globalized economy. As a result, we are seeing more and more technological advances in this part of the global supply chain. Organizations in the port space—authorities, operators, service providers, third-party logistics companies, and forwarders—are doing more and more to improve the end-to-end supply chain. That’s what today’s customer wants, and that’s what helps freight lines and ports attract new cargo. Please join CSCMP Charlotte as we hear from Cary Hagen, Vice President of Cargo Sales and Mark Higgins, Director of Motor Carrier Experience at the Port of Virginia who will discuss the following areas of growth and operational improvement: "Improving the Customer experience," "Increasing End to End collaboration," "Upgrading cargo velocity and visibility," "Virginia’s Port expansion project," "Rising above and mitigating COVID-19 impacts." Cary leads a global team of sales professionals responsible for business development and client relationships with key customers and stakeholders of the Port of Virginia. Mark was a key contributor and project manager for the new $42 million NIT North Gate project, which opened in late June 2017. In addition, Mark was a major contributor in the development of the truck reservation platform that has been deployed at New York, VIG and NIT.

*CANCELED* Mega Meeting

You are invited to attend our 21st Mega-Meeting sponsored by these five Supply Chain organizations.  Our Theme is Supply Chain Management – A Customers Leap of Faith? Topic of Speech: “Supply Chain Management – Fasten Your Seat Belts”       Every customer makes a “Leap of Faith”, when they place an order with a company. “Look before you Leap” is a cautionary action taken by most consumers as they do not want to “Fasten their Seatbelts” and be taken for a ride by a company’s supply chain management team. This presentation will explore some of the reasons that help to explain the rise in strategic importance of supply chain capabilities, and will highlight new technologies and approaches that will continue the rise to success.  Both shippers and third-party service providers can now “Leap over the Hurdles” that caused customers to fasten their belts in anticipation of poor service. To further guarantee this success developing future supply chain talent is a high priority for our educational institutions and participating organizations in today’s supply chains. Let’s Fasten our Seatbelts and take a Leap of Faith!

The E-Commerce Hangover: Reverse Logistics

Given the strong growth of e-commerce, with B2C accounting for over half of shipping volume since 2014, one might think online shopping has never been easier and more convenient.  That is, until something needs to be returned.  Which happens a lot!  Did you know consumers return 25-35% of their online purchases vs. only 8-9% in actual stores?  The e-commerce hangover is very real, and retailers are adapting their strategies to optimize the return process given this new shopping paradigm.  On Thursday, November 19, the CSCMP Charlotte Roundtable is pleased to present a reverse logistics thought leader: Mr. Tony Sciarrotta, Executive Director of The Reverse Logistics Association (www.rla.org) This virtual meeting will explore the challenges of the omni-channel reverse logistics landscape, where buyers expect no hassle, cross-channel, free freight and unlimited return policies.  Mr. Sciarrotta will offer tips on how best in class companies, like Amazon, are improving reverse logistics efficiency.
