Why You Should Join CSCMP as a Student or Young Professional Member

CSCMP is a membership-based association and a resource for professionals working in supply chain. If you’re starting out your supply chain career as a student or you are entering the discipline as a young professional, CSCMP may be the ideal professional organization to elevate your career. The benefits and resources that are available to CSCMP members and especially useful for students and young professionals include:

Young Professionals Committee (YPC)

CSCMP’s YPC is made up of volunteer leaders age 32 and under, who are dedicated to creating value for early-career supply chain management professionals. The YPC developed our Mentorship Program and the CSCMP Podcast and leads a variety of initiatives, including hosting mock interviews, career panels, virtual facility tours and more. The Committee holds a “Call for Members” every fall so be ready to apply when the application window opens. Check out the testimonials below from current YPC members.

CSCMP’s YPC has allowed me the opportunity to expand my network of like-minded individuals, learn and explore areas outside my functional role, and have an impact on the future of CSCMP and the content tailored to young professionals. Additionally, the YPC has allowed me to further develop and refine my leadership and team building skills, which I am able to apply in all other facets of my personal and professional life.

- Michael Walters, YPC Coordinator

Mentorship Program

The goal of the CSCMP Mentorship Program is to help you progress in your supply chain career development by providing the opportunity to become involved in a valuable mentoring partnership. Our program boasts a 90% satisfaction rate and participants repeatedly say they would recommend it to a colleague. You can join the program every spring and fall.

Joining the YPC helped me quickly build a professional network of peers in the Supply Chain field. Other members of the YPC have been a great resource as I build my career and have become good friends as well. The team has a diverse background of skills that keep me inspired and motivated after each meeting. Being on the committee has also given me a space to build leadership skills that I've been able to incorporate into my job, and other volunteer organizations.

- Jill Banko, YPC Vice Chair

EDGE Future Leaders Program

The Future Leaders Program is a highlight of EDGE, CSCMP’s annual conference. Each year, we invite 40-50 Roundtable-affiliated students in supply chain management to attend the conference as volunteers. Students are sponsored by their local Roundtable and CSCMP, affording the opportunity of a lifetime for SCM students. This program kicks off in May of each year – reach out to [email protected] if you have questions or are interested in participating.

CSCMP Roundtables

Take advantage of networking and hands-on learning through CSCMP’s 40 global roundtables (our local chapters). The roundtables host hundreds of local events per year, including educational events, networking events, facility tours and more.

I originally joined the CSCMP Young Professionals Committee as a recent college graduate hoping to connect with other supply chain professionals - my expectations were far exceeded! In addition to building long-lasting connections, I have had the opportunity to learn from other young professionals’ experiences, enhance tangible leadership skills for career development, and creatively give back to the supply chain community through hosting various events and programs. I would encourage passionate students and young professionals to apply to the YPC!

- Paige Ruhlman, YPC Member

Young Professionals Video Contest

Through this contest, you can submit a video answering a question regarding a problem in supply chain management for a chance to win one complimentary registration to the EDGE conference, hotel lodging and a $500.00 U.S. travel stipend. The winner will also receive written recognition before and after EDGE as well as be formally awarded during the Future Leaders Reception. This contest kicks off in April 2023.

I joined the CSCMP Young Professionals Committee to both increase my involvement and investment in the premier supply chain organization and to gain exposure to other young professionals who share my passion for our profession. My membership on the committee has afforded me countless opportunities to build lasting relationships, to promote the supply chain industry to students and young professionals, and to develop and grow as a leader. I would encourage any young professionals who are passionate about both their career development and furthering the supply chain profession to apply for the YPC.

- Chris Soloway, YPC Vice Chair
